I am healthy and happy – but – I am in no way perfect. I strive to live my life in balance and moderation. That is always my goal, even though I’m not always successful. I am always striving to improve my health and that of my three children.
Achieving health is a constant evolution. The challenge is that life is always changing! Just when I think I’ve got it, something shifts and I need to adjust my approach again. But each time it seems to get a little easier. Some things are now becoming a habit, like my daily green smoothie. Other things continue to be a challenge for me, like meal planning. But I just continue to work on my approach.
Here’s some background on my training:
I began my career as a Physical Therapist in 2003, and received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2005. But I soon became fed up with the medical model of working in a clinic which prioritized quantity over quality. I love working with people and wanted to give them the care they deserved.
Teaching Pilates seemed like a way to help people on the terms that I desired. So I earned my certification as a level 1 Pilates instructor and opened the doors of my Pilates studio, Core of Health, in May 2008. I love teaching Pilates and watching people move and become stronger, more flexible and healthier over time. I continued with my Pilates training, becoming comprehensively certified in 2010.
Frequently, my Pilates students would ask me for nutrition advice. I gave my opinions freely but I lacked the knowledge to truly guide them. I wanted to study nutrition from a holistic view in order to learn how to improve the health of myself, my family, and anyone who sought support. I hungered for more knowledge about nutrition so I could make the informed decisions that improve health. I enrolled at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in March 2012.
It was an amazing journey! I studied hundreds of different dietary theories. Each seemed very logical, but the most important thing I learned is that everyone has different nutritional requirements. The only way to figure out what works best for you is to try different things. Nutrition is like a giant experiment. I also learned that great health is about much more than just the foods you eat. I really enjoy working with people to create balance in their lives and figure out what foods make them feel the best. Transformation comes from the inside out.
Great health is not about being perfect.
You just do the best you can do! Don’t beat yourself up about a poor decision – focus on the good things you do for yourself each day. As you continue to add in better habits, you will feel and see the difference. This will provide even more of the encouragement that you need to continue.
I believe that great health is about listening to your body and slowly making changes that improve your health.
Welcome to your journey!
